Simmer Add to Chrome

How to pick up where you left off in Chrome

Updated , by , who makes Simmer

Short answer

To reopen everything from last time when Chrome starts, go to Settings → On startup and choose Continue where you left off. To bring back a tab or window you just closed, press Ctrl+Shift+T (⌘+Shift+T on a Mac). To come back to a task days later, keep it on Simmer's back burner and bring the whole task back in one click.

Reopen last session's tabs

Open Chrome's Settings, choose On startup, and pick Continue where you left off. Chrome will reopen the tabs and windows you had when it closed. It brings back everything, which is the right answer after a restart and the wrong one when you meant to start fresh.

Undo a tab you just closed

Press Ctrl+Shift+T (⌘+Shift+T on a Mac). Press it again to keep going back. If you closed a whole window, the same shortcut reopens the window with its tabs. For anything older, the History menu lists recently closed tabs, and finding a lost tab covers the rest.

Come back to a task days later

Restoring a session brings back every tab; history gives you single pages. Neither remembers that six of those tabs were one task. Simmer does. Put a task on the back burner when you're done for now, and it waits in the side panel with its name, its tabs and when you left it.

Once a day, Simmer can also open a short list of what you were on yesterday: Yesterday you were on 3 things, each with Open. Pick one up, or leave them all where they are. If you'd rather not see it, the page has a link to stop it opening each morning.

Make sure nothing is lost on the way

Everything Simmer does is listed under Recently, with Undo. You can also turn on automatic backups, which write a file to Downloads/Simmer, so a copy of what you've saved lives outside Chrome too.
